Mid-Ohio Energy named HCCBA's 2016 Business of the Year!
Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative was recently named 2016 Business of the Year by the Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance. The award was presented at the organization’s 11th annual membership and awards ceremony.
“We’re honored to accept this award on behalf of our members,” said Mid-Ohio Energy President & CEO John Metcalf. Metcalf noted the cooperative principle of ‘Concern for Community’ drives local offerings such as a community meeting room, youth scholarships, and Community Fund grants. “Since the Community Fund was started in 2006, more than $450,000 has been given directly to schools, first responders, service groups, and more.”
The Community Fund accepts voluntary member contributions and places them into a fund. An independent Community Fund board (consisting of a representative from each of the cooperative’s nine member districts) meets quarterly to distribute grants to organizations and individuals in order to make a positive impact in local communities.
Chamber & Business Alliance President Jon Cross praised the cooperative for its local presence and complimented the co-op’s new headquarters. “Here’s an example where a local organization has taken land on the edge of town and established a welcoming symbol of business in the Kenton community.”
