SCAM ALERT: Beware of phone scams targeting members
Monday, June 12, 2017
Please be advised, our members are receiving suspicious calls claiming to be from Mid-Ohio Energy. Calls may request information or claim to be calling about "generation" or "supply billing". These calls are not from Mid-Ohio Energy. We will NEVER call to ask for sensitive account information or demand immediate payment over the phone.
Please do not give out any personal infomation. Report suspicious calls to the authorities.
Falling for a scam could prove very expensive, resulting in stolen identity, bank and credit card fraud, and, in the case of those believing their electric bill has been paid, power being cut off for non-payment.
Mid-Ohio Energy offers the following tips to avoid being scammed:
- Mid-Ohio Energy will NEVER call and ask for sensitive personal information over the phone.
- Members should only use methods authorized by Mid-Ohio Energy to pay their electric bills.
- Our employees visit a home only in response to a service request. If a service call has not been scheduled or requested, do not allow the person to enter your house.
- When an employee does come in response to a serve call, check identification and make sure the service truck is clearly marked with Mid-Ohio Energy's logo.
