Members and staff of Mid-Ohio Energy recently gathered at the co-op’s office in Kenton for a legislative update from their representatives. During the event, attendees heard from Ohio Senator Bill Reineke, Ohio Rep. Susan Manchester, Ohio Rep. Riordan McClain, and Marc Armstrong, Director of Government Affairs for Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives.
The event was opened to members who participate in the America’s Electric Cooperatives PAC program, office and featured a breakfast buffet provided by the Plaza Inn restaurant.
The primary topic of discussion surrounded the need for reliable energy across the grid.
Ohio Senator Bill Reineke, who serves on the Ohio Senate’s Energy & Public Utilities Committee noted “the two most important things to the committee are reliability and cost”. Reineke thanked co-op staff for their local efforts to serve members.
Ohio Rep. Riordan McClain noted the impact of grassroots efforts from the public, and how political action committees like America’s Electric Cooperatives PAC can help amplify local voices. “There’s a need for every American to stand up and speak for what you believe in. When individuals with shared interests band together, it’s gets the attention of your legislative reps.”
Mid-Ohio Energy President & CEO John Metcalf provided an update on the power plant rules released by the U.S. EPA. "We cannot jeopardize the reliable, affordable electricity our lives and economy depend on, at a time when our electric grid is already stressed to meet power demand," said Metcalf.
