Mid-Ohio Energy recently hosted a legislative update for members who participate in the co-op's grassroots political action program. The event was held at the co-op’s Kenton office and featured a breakfast buffet provided by the Plaza Inn restaurant.
Legislators attending were Ohio Senator Bill Reineke, state Rep. Jon Cross, and state Rep. Susan Manchester. Each gave a brief update and fielded questions from the audience.
Topics of discussion included electric grid reliability, the need for communities to invest in infrastructure, industrial site preparation, and developing / retaining a skilled workforce locally.
"Policy shapes your service and your bill," said Rep. Jon Cross. "Your voice says don't forget about rural Ohio."
Mid-Ohio Energy President & CEO John Metcalf spoke to the crowd about the co-ops efforts to maintain reliability while staying ahead of supply chain delays on pivotal items like transformers, line trucks, and other equipment.
Marc Armstrong, Director of Government Affairs for Ohio's Electric Cooperatives, noted the significance of members staying engaged on issues that affect energy and community. "Grassroots participation helps amplify our voices. Rural Ohio can't just sit idly back and hope legislators get it right," said Armstrong.
