When temperatures drop, demand for electricity rises. This strains the grid and can result in higher wholesale energy costs. By reducing our system's energy footprint during peak times, we can avoid costs associated with high grid demand and/or securing additional power generation.
What can you do to help? Here are few quick, easy steps you can take to save energy:
Layer up, close the blinds, and lower your thermostat a few degrees.
Perform tasks that use hot water (such as showering, diswasher, laundry) during off-peak hours
Use lower-energy options for cooking (such as the microwave or air fryer rather than the oven or electric stove).
Load Management
Mid-Ohio Energy and our power supplier Buckeye Power also use a load management system, which utilizes radio-control switches installed on appliances such as water heaters, heat pumps, and geothermal units to help reduce load during peak times. Members who volunteer to participate receive rebates for having these switches installed. For more information on the load managment program, including current peak status, visit this page.
